Joining the Network

Why was the WFFGN Membership created?

In Waltham Forest, hundreds of people commit thousands of hours to cultivating land and community to respond to the epidemic of loneliness, food poverty, climate breakdown, and ecosystem collapse. There are over 1000 people on the allotment waiting list in the borough, the Right to Grow has 400 interested individuals signed up to access more land, and the need for and popularity of community food growing is rising year on year.

The WFFGN has supported dozens of different growing sites in this corner of the city, we have helped raise thousands of pounds of grant income for our members, negotiated council contracts, shared skills, ideas and infrastructure to make this vital and criminally under resourced work a little easier.

What’s clear from years of this work is that we need durable organisations which can survive beyond funding cycles. Through creating an accessible and equitable paid membership we hope to continue our work in a more sustainable way.

How does individual membership work?

We have created a tiered membership system, available to subscribe monthly or annually.

  • Unwaged - For people who are currently unwaged or on a low income - £2 per month

  • Stable Income - For people with a stable income - £4 per month

  • High access to resources - For people with high access to resources who want to support the network - £10 per month

The membership has been set up to support the work of the WFFGN and the wider boroughs growing work, although there are additional perks that members can access (with more on the way!):

  • Access to a fortnightly newsletter summarising events, trainings, local opportunities in the borough (in addition to our monthly newsletter, which anyone can sign up to below)

  • Access to bi-monthly WFFGN drop in sessions to meet other local growers, get advice on food growing, and learn about ways to get more involved in the food movement in the borough

  • Free entry to the annual WFFGN Harvest Fair

  • Access to the WFFGN Seed Library (starting proper Spring 2027)
